If you have been playing FC 26 recently, you are likely familiar with the frustration of being unrealistically barged off the ball from behind by a defender. Following ongoing community discussions, EA Sports has released a new Feedback Update detailing an upcoming patch that specifically targets the overpowered Bruiser Playstyle.
The upcoming update aims to overhaul how physical interactions, specifically shoulder challenges, are calculated in-game. Here is a breakdown of the gameplay mechanics changing in the next patch.
Balancing Bruiser vs. Enforcer Attributes
Previously, the game’s tackling calculations heavily favored the defending player when the Bruiser Playstyle was equipped, leading to incredibly one-sided outcomes. To fix this, EA is adjusting the math behind these interactions:
- The physical boost provided by Bruiser and Bruiser+ is being slightly reduced in shoulder challenge situations.
- To counter the defensive dominance, dribblers equipped with Enforcer or Enforcer+ will receive a matching physical boost.
This change is designed to create much more even, head-to-head physical battles rather than allowing defenders to automatically win the animation.
Realistic Shoulder Challenge Outcomes
The most noticeable gameplay change will be how players react after contact is made during an angled shoulder barge. The update ensures that a player's underlying strength attributes actually dictate the result of the challenge.
Moving forward, weaker tacklers will no longer be able to overpower stronger dribblers in unrealistic ways. If a weak tackler attempts to barge a strong ball carrier, the dribbler will now win the exchange and easily gain separation, leaving the defender behind. In closer, more average matchups, the player who loses the initial barge will recover much quicker, allowing them to stay shoulder-to-shoulder and continue pressing the play.
However, defensive players do not need to worry about tackles becoming useless. If you are using a genuinely stronger tackler against a weaker dribbler, you will still easily knock them off balance and win the ball, even at wider angles.

Stopping Frustrating Challenges From Behind
Perhaps the biggest relief for the community is a direct fix to tackles hitting attackers squarely in the back.
EA has refined the detection system for situations where a shoulder challenge might result in contact from behind. The game engine will now actively predict player movement slightly ahead of the animation. If the system detects that a shoulder challenge will result in back contact, the challenge will be cancelled entirely.
EA noted that this should significantly reduce the number of frustrating and unfair tackles in the box, though they plan to continue monitoring this space after the patch goes live.
(Note: EA also confirmed a minor UI fix addressing cases where the Bruiser+ icon would mistakenly appear above a player's head even when the Playstyle wasn't actually impacting the play).
The exact release date for this Title Update has not been confirmed yet, but EA stated they look forward to sharing the full patch notes soon.
