How to attack with the 442 in FC 26?
There are multiple avenues of attack with this 4-4-2 setup but your primary channel will be the overload created on the right side of the pitch. Both the RCM and RM will be pushing forward and into the box creating a ton of passing options between them and your Strikers for you to exploit.
Use the close control dribbling from your RM to beat players and look for the cutback across goal or cut inside for a shot. Playing it back to the RCM for a double-tapped Through Ball can put your strikers in behind for goal as well.
Alternatively, if you're finding it hard to break down the defence on the right, your LM should be on the touchline and in a lot of space for you to switch the play with and drive inwards. Look for the late run into the box from your LCM for the cutback there as defenders track your strikers.
How to defend with the 442 in FC 26?
The biggest defensive duty you will have is to manually make your central midfielders tracking back once you lose possession. Do not try to press the ball carrier with them because if you get caught out your defensive line will be in a lot of danger.
Your LM should track back on their own but once your CMs have been pulled into place, select your RM to make sure they're not allowing an extra passing option out wide. Under no circumstances should you pull your fullbacks out of position to press.
Use your RCM to screen the midfield and look to cut out passing lanes in the middle. If your opponent tries to take the ball down the line, try to stay between them and the runners in the box with your fullback, look to cut out the cutback with a manual interception.
Only switch to your CB once the attackers have broken through the middle and are bearing in on goal. Spamming tackle will make it easy for them to leave your player in the dust so make sure to time your challenge inside the box to trigger a tackle or a block to save a goal.
