Because these Evolutions are linked directly to your season progress, and because you can only put WTSS players through this specific chain, making a mistake early on will permanently ruin your upgrade path.
Here is exactly how the WTSS Journey Evolutions work, the "position hopping" loophole you need to know about, and the top 5 best players you should be upgrading right now.
How the WTSS Journey Evolutions Work

Throughout the Season 7 Standard Pass, you will unlock three different Evolution stages. At each of these stages, you must choose one path: Attacker, Midfielder, or Defender.
Here is the breakdown of the unlock stages:
- Level 3: WTSS Journey 1 (Choose Attacker, Midfielder, or Defender)
- Level 8: WTSS Journey 2 (Choose Attacker, Midfielder, or Defender)
- Level 21: WTSS Journey 3 (Choose Attacker, Midfielder, or Defender)
The Requirements
To ensure your chosen WTSS player can make it through the entire three-part Journey, they must meet strict requirements at each stage:
- Journey 1: Must be a WTSS Player (acquired via previous/current season objectives), Max 10 base PlayStyles, Max 1 PlayStyle+.
- Journey 2: Must meet Journey 1 requirements AND be exactly 88 OVR.
- Journey 3: Must meet Journey 1 requirements AND be exactly 90 OVR with exactly 2 PlayStyle+s.
Furthermore, your player must possess specific eligible positions to enter each path:
- Defender Path: Must be a CB, LB, or RB.
- Midfielder Path: Must be a CAM, CM, or CDM.
- Attacker Path: Must be an ST, LW, or RW.
The "Position Hopping" Loophole
Here is where the system gets incredibly interesting. If your chosen WTSS player has alternate positions that overlap across different pitch zones, you can mix and match your Journey paths!
For example, Marcel Desailly has both CB and CDM alternate positions. This means you could theoretically put him through the Journey 1 Defender Evo, switch to the Journey 2 Midfielder Evo, and finish him in the Journey 3 Defender Evo to create a completely custom stat distribution.
FUT.GG Tip: These Journey paths (and the standard Roles++ Evos) are the only Evolutions you can put WTSS players through. It is imperative that you decide which player you want at the very start and map out their precise Evo chain so you only select the appropriate Evolutions at Levels 3, 8, and 21.

As a CM Deep-Lying Playmaker, this makes him better than his Fantasy Captain Icon version from the Season Pass, allowing you to safely take the 90+ x6 Players Pack reward instead!
3. Franz Beckenbauer (93.2 GG Rating)
Playing as a CM Deep-Lying Playmaker makes him a top 5 player in this role, offering the perfect blend of elite defending and pristine playmaking.
4. Lucio (93.1 GG Rating)
As a CB Defender, this puts him in the top 3 best players in his position; his pace combined with Anticipate+ and Quick Step+ makes him feel like he literally teleports into tackles.
5. Ronaldo Nazário (92.5 GG Rating)
Running as an ST Advanced Forward puts R9 in the top 10 best in this role; he is significantly better than his Icon Swaps version and an absolutely cracked attacker to have leading your line.
The WTSS Journey Evolutions are incredibly rewarding, but because you are locked into the paths you choose at Levels 3, 8, and 21, you cannot afford to guess and hope for the best.
