If you love collecting rare items in Ultimate Team, EA FC 27 is about to introduce one of the biggest visual shake-ups to pack openings we have seen in years. EA Sports has officially confirmed the introduction of Holographic Items, a brand new, ultra-rare version of special player cards.
If you have ever collected physical trading cards or sports cards, this new system will feel very familiar. Instead of just chasing a promo card, players will now be chasing the much rarer Holographic version of that same player to boost their club collections.
Here is a breakdown of what Holographic Cards are in EA FC 27 and how they actually work.
What is a Holographic Card in EA FC 27?
Holographic Items are essentially premium, ultra-rare variants of existing special cards.
When a special item (like a Team of the Week, promo card, or Icon) is available in a pack, there is a chance that the game will generate a Holographic version of that exact same item instead of the standard version.
It is important to note that Holographic cards do not have better stats. The player’s in-game attributes, PlayStyles, and performance will remain exactly the same as the standard version of the card. The appeal of a Holographic Item is entirely based on its rarity, prestige, and unique visual presentation. If you are lucky enough to pack one, you will get a completely upgraded pack animation and a card that instantly stands out on the pitch.
Regular vs Pristine Holographic Cards
Not all Holographic cards are created equal. EA has confirmed that there are two different tiers of Holographic Items available in FC 27:
- Regular Holographic Items: These cards feature a standard, premium animated foil effect that shines differently than a normal promo card.
- Pristine Holographic Items: This is the absolute top tier. Pristine items take the animated foil effect and add an even more premium look, which includes replacing standard text elements with the player’s name displayed in a stylized, signature-like font.
To keep the market balanced and ensure the cards remain truly rare, each eligible special player item will only ever have one Holographic version available. It will either be Regular or Pristine, never both.
How Holographic Cards work with the FUT Gallery
The biggest reason to hunt for these rare items ties directly into the new FUT Gallery, a system aimed entirely at encouraging and rewarding collectors in Ultimate Team.
Because Holographic Items are much rarer than their standard counterparts, they contribute significantly more towards your overall set progression in the FUT Gallery. This means packing a Holographic card will help you complete collection milestones and unlock rewards much faster.
The best part is that you do not have to hold onto the card forever to keep the credit. Once you pack or buy a Holographic card, you can display it in your Gallery permanently, even if you later sell the card on the Transfer Market or submit it into an SBC.
