Squad Building Challenges have been a core pillar of Football Ultimate Team for almost a decade, but the grind of constantly managing chemistry, positions, and squad ratings can sometimes feel repetitive.

For FC 27, EA Sports is introducing the biggest update to the system since its inception: Streamlined SBCs.

Designed to make earning rewards faster and much more intuitive, this new format completely removes the traditional squad building puzzle for certain SBCs and replaces it with a flexible, point-based system. Here is exactly how Streamlined SBCs will work in FC 27.

How do Streamlined SBCs work?

Instead of building a full starting eleven that meets strict chemistry, position, or squad overall rating requirements, Streamlined SBCs are much simpler. You will simply see a list of eligible items from your club and select which ones you want to submit.

Each card you submit contributes a specific "score" based on its overall rating and rarity. This uses the exact same scoring system as the new FUT Gallery. As you submit players, your SBC progress bar increases until you hit the required target score.

Because EA is moving away from strict squad rating requirements (like "Submit an 84-Rated Squad"), you now have total flexibility. For example, if a Player of the Month SBC requires a specific total score and a minimum rating of 75 OVR, you can choose how to complete it. You can submit a huge amount of low-rated cards, a handful of high-rated cards, or any mix of the two.

Duplicate Submissions and Partial Progress

Perhaps the most exciting part of Streamlined SBCs is how they will change club management. Two highly requested quality of life features are finally arriving:

  • Duplicate Submissions: You can now submit multiple versions of the exact same player item into a Streamlined SBC, including duplicates. You no longer have to quick-sell or discard duplicates if you want to throw them into the same upgrade pack.
  • Partial Progress: You no longer need to complete an entire SBC requirement in a single sitting. Streamlined SBCs support partial progress, meaning you can submit a few items to clear out your unassigned pile, save your progress, and come back later to finish the rest of the target score.

Are Traditional SBCs gone?

No, traditional SBCs are not being removed entirely. EA has confirmed that the classic format requiring chemistry and positions will still be used for puzzle-like Challenge SBCs (such as Marquee Matchups or Daily Puzzles).

However, the new Streamlined SBC format will be the standard for the vast majority of Player SBCs and Upgrade SBCs moving forward.
