EA FC 27 is making attacking movement much smarter and more dynamic. While AI attackers have received a massive buff to their overall spatial awareness, the biggest attacking changes come to how you manually control player runs.

Instead of just sending players in straight lines, EA has introduced two brand new manual run mechanics: Triggered Curved Runs and Pass & Follow Runs.

These new mechanics allow players to bend around defenders, exploit open space, and create dynamic attacking angles.

How to trigger Curved Runs and Pass & Follow Runs

Here are the exact inputs to use the new manual run mechanics:

  • Triggered Curved Run: Tap L1 + R1 (PlayStation) or LB + RB (Xbox)
  • Pass & Follow Run: Press L1 + R1 + X (PlayStation) or LB + RB + A (Xbox)

While a standard triggered run sends a player straight forward, a Triggered Curved Run tells the player to curve their movement directly into open space. This is a fantastic way to bend a run around a center back to get in behind the defense.

A Pass & Follow Run functions similarly to the classic Pass & Go (1-2 pass). The player who passes the ball will immediately follow up with a curved run to exploit available space, choosing to overlap or cut inside depending on where the defense is positioned.

Note: Because these runs take a curved path, the trade-off is that they may take slightly longer to complete than a standard straight sprint.

Limited Distance for Manually Triggered Runs

You can no longer spam manual runs and forget about them.

In FC 26, you could trigger a run and that player would sprint endlessly down the pitch, even if you passed the ball completely across the field. In EA FC 27, manually triggered runs only continue for a limited distance.

Once the player reaches the end of their run, they will stop and return to occupy space or fulfill their normal positional role. If you want the player to keep running, you have to actively press the trigger command again, but you must remain within range of the running player to do so.

This change forces you to be much more intentional with your attacks and actively manage your teammates' movements instead of relying on the AI to sprint indefinitely.

Improved AI Creative Runs

If you do not want to constantly trigger manual runs, do not worry, the AI has been buffed to make smarter runs on its own.

Attacking Spatial Awareness has been completely overhauled so that AI teammates react to developing plays with more urgency. The AI now takes available space, defensive positioning, and the offside line into account.

For example, an AI winger might run parallel to the defensive line to stay onside while waiting for a through ball. Once you make the pass, they will intelligently curve their run forward into the box to attack the space.
